The 69,000 assistant-teacher recruitment
Eight years after the 2018 recruitment of 69,000 assistant teachers, disputes over reserved seats are still in court, and protesters have camped in Lucknow for over 500 days.
Open for ideas, evidence and questions.
What we know
Candidates in the 2018 recruitment of 69,000 assistant teachers say thousands of reserved seats were filled wrongly. The High Court ordered a fresh merit list in August 2024; the Supreme Court stayed it, and hearings have been adjourned repeatedly. In July 2026 the state told the court no serving teacher would lose a job.
Protesters have camped at Lucknow's Eco Garden for over 500 days.
Open questions
- How many times has the Supreme Court hearing been adjourned, and why?
- How many candidates are affected, and what remedies have been proposed?
- How could recruitment lists be checked before appointments, so disputes are caught early?
