Privacy notice
Being associated with a political party is sensitive. We collect as little as we can, use it only for the reasons below, and never sell or share it.
What we collect
- Your name and email, so we can contact you.
- Your city or district and state, so we can organise by region. We never store your exact location.
- Your profession, the skills you offer and your weekly availability, so we can match volunteers with work.
- Your idea for the manifesto, if you add one: its kind, headline and text.
- Whether you joined as a member or a volunteer, the date you agreed to this notice, and the page or campaign that brought you to us.
We do not ask for your caste, religion, phone number or ID documents. Please don't put other people's personal details in your idea. If you do, we remove them before publishing.
Manifesto discussions
When you sign in to participate, we store a display name, your choice about showing your state, your comments and source links, supports, and moderation decisions. Your email, city and profession are never shown in discussions. Pseudonyms are allowed.
When you post a comment, its text, the discussion it belongs to and any source link are checked automatically by a screening service for spam, scams, abuse and similar problems. Your name, email and other details are not sent. Comments that pass are published straight away; the rest wait for a moderator, and while waiting are visible only to you and authorised moderators. New problems and proposals are always reviewed by a person. If a comment is rejected, you can see the reason category. Official replies appear as HRP. Public moderation records contain monthly counts and reasons, never rejected text or private member details.
Sign-in links expire after 15 minutes and can be used once. We store their hashes, not the links themselves. A secure, httpOnly sign-in cookie lasts up to 30 days; signing out revokes that session. We keep short-lived counters to limit repeated sign-in requests and contributions.
Before your first comment, you accept this privacy notice again. If your account is deleted, your comments retain their text under “Former member”, and your supports, profile and sign-in sessions are removed. Contact us at [email protected] for corrections, deletion or a moderation appeal.
Media record corrections
If you contest or suggest an edit to a Know Your Media record, we receive the record, your message, any supporting source you include and your optional reply email in our team inbox. We use these details to review the evidence and respond to you. Your submission does not sign you up to HRP and is not published automatically. You can contact us at [email protected] to ask us to delete it.
Who can sign up
You must be 18 or older to join HRP, and you confirm this on the form. If we learn that someone under 18 has signed up, we delete their details.
How we find your location
When the form loads, we estimate your city and state from your network, the same way most websites do. This can be wrong, so you can always change it.
If you tap Use my location, your browser asks your permission first. We round the coordinates to about a kilometre and look up the city and state with OpenStreetMap's Nominatim service. We do not store the coordinates.
Why we use it
To send you updates about HRP, to invite volunteers to our private Discord and to work that fits their skills and area, and to understand where our support comes from.
If you add an idea, we read it and may publish it, in full or in part, as part of our research and the People's Manifesto. Ideas are published without individual author credit. Nothing is published until a person has reviewed it.
We process your details on the basis of your consent, which you give by ticking the box on the form and confirming your email.
Who can see it
A small number of HRP organisers. We use service providers to run the website, store data, send email and screen discussion comments. They process data only on our instructions and may do so outside India. We never sell your data or share it with other parties, campaigns or advertisers.
We don't share your details with Discord. If you accept an invite, what you post there is covered by Discord's own privacy policy, and other members of the server can see it.
How long we keep it
If you don't confirm your email within 7 days, your sign-up is deleted automatically, and any idea you sent with it stays on record without being linked to you. Once confirmed, we keep your details until you ask us to delete them or withdraw your consent.
Your rights
You can ask us at any time to:
- tell you what we hold about you;
- correct or update it;
- delete it, including any idea linked to your sign-up, and stop contacting you.
Write to [email protected] from the address you signed up with. If you're unhappy with our response, you can raise a grievance with us at the same address, and you may also complain to the Data Protection Board of India.
Security
Your data is encrypted in transit. Confirmation links are single-use and stored only in hashed form. We store a keyed hash of your IP address briefly to stop automated sign-ups, and delete it once you confirm.
