The comparison

Modi’s reply to a 15-year-old’s insult

A 15-year-old swore at Modi at a protest. National news ran the clip on 30 July 2026, and the next day Modi posted a reel about it, calling her language “a cultural shock”. She was doxxed, threatened and shamed; in October she was still in hiding. One day, for a schoolgirl’s swear words. Below is how long he has taken on crimes against women tied to his own party, its allies and its governments. Most of those clocks are still running.

How we count

What the clocks measure

  • Which cases are included

Each case has a documented BJP connection: a leader or worker, an NDA ally, political support for an accused person, or action by a BJP-led government. Each case says what the connection is and links the evidence.

  • What starts the clock

Usually, the first documented national report. Some clocks start at a conviction; the Bilkis Bano clock starts at the convicts’ release. Each case gives its start date and reason. The girl’s clip was recorded on 23 July, but her clock starts on 30 July, when national news reported it.

  • What stops it

Modi speaking in public about the case. Remarks that reporting at the time tied to a case count, even if he didn’t name it. General lines about women’s safety don’t, and neither do phone calls other people say he made. If a clock is still running, we haven’t found him saying anything. Show us a statement and we’ll stop it.

  • The Cultural Heritage tag

A dated, sourced link to Modi or, where stated, his party or government, with no apology or explanation from him. If he speaks up, the link stays on the record and the tag comes off.

  • Remarks and apologies

The second list is abuse by BJP leaders, aimed at women or thrown around in public. Each clock runs from the remark to the speaker’s own apology, withdrawal or regret. The girl apologised two days after her clip made national news. Even an “if anyone was hurt” regret stops the clock.

  • Legal status

Each case gives the court, the year and where it stands: FIR, chargesheet, trial or conviction.

  • Sources and updates

Every entry links its sources, and court records win where reports differ. The clocks tick live. This is a selection, and it keeps growing.

Every party

Cases declared across parties

106

14
ADR, 23 Oct 2026

From ADR’s study of 4,881 election affidavits, 2022 to 2026. The candidates declared these cases themselves.
