Bengaluru's traffic, water, floods and garbage
For two decades Bengaluru has struggled with traffic, water shortages, flooding and garbage, and it has had no elected city council since 2020.
Open for ideas, evidence and questions.
What we know
Traffic, water shortage, flooding and garbage have troubled Bengaluru for two decades. The city's traffic is among the worst in the world, and summer water shortages are common.
The city has had no elected council since 2020. The Greater Bengaluru Authority replaced the old corporation in Sept 2025, with five corporations and 369 wards. The Supreme Court ordered polls by 30 June 2026, but they are still stalled.
Open questions
- When will the five new corporations hold elections, and what is holding them up?
- How much has been spent on roads, drains and garbage in the last five years, and with which contractors?
- How much water does the city need in summer, and how much does it get from each source?
