Upper Bhadra irrigation for drought-hit Chitradurga
Drought-hit Chitradurga is still waiting for the Upper Bhadra irrigation project, now targeted for 2028.
Open for ideas, evidence and questions.
What we know
Chitradurga suffers from drought. On 13 Sept 2026, the state government reported trial water releases through the Chitradurga branch canal and a 2028 completion target for Upper Bhadra. It was still waiting for the ₹5,300 crore assistance the Centre had promised.
Open questions
- How much of the Upper Bhadra canal network is finished, and how many acres does it irrigate today?
- How much has the project cost so far, compared with its first estimate?
- What is holding up the Centre's promised ₹5,300 crore?
