Mining shutdown
Mining stopped after Supreme Court orders in 2012 and 2018, and the people who lived off it are still waiting for a restart.
Open for ideas, evidence and questions.
What we know
Supreme Court orders in 2012 and 2018 shut down mining in Goa. Livelihoods were lost, and the restart has been slow.
The mining belt includes Bicholim, Sattari and Mayem in the north and Sanguem, Quepem, Sanvordem and Curchorem in the south, where truck owners have been left idle and violations have been reported.
Open questions
- How many mining leases are working again today, and who holds them?
- How many families depended on mining before 2012, and what do they do now?
- How have other mining regions handled a shutdown and a restart?
