Lawmakers facing criminal cases
46% of MPs elected in 2024 declared criminal cases against themselves, and 31% face serious charges such as murder, rape or kidnapping.
Open for ideas, evidence and questions.
What we know
The figures come from the Association for Democratic Reforms' analysis of the affidavits candidates file. Under current law, a lawmaker is disqualified only on conviction with a sentence of two years or more, so a case that stays in trial never disqualifies anyone.
