Upper Krishna Project land and rehabilitation
Raising the Almatti reservoir under the Upper Krishna Project Stage III would submerge more land and require the rehabilitation of 22 villages.
Open for ideas, evidence and questions.
What we know
Land acquisition and rehabilitation for Upper Krishna Project Stage III are a long-running problem.
The Environment Ministry's 2019 appraisal minutes describe a proposed increase in Almatti's reservoir level from 519.60 m to 524.256 m, with 30,875 hectares of additional submergence and rehabilitation of 22 villages. These are project-design figures, not a current count of outstanding claims.
Open questions
- How many families have been compensated and resettled so far, and how many are still waiting?
- How much land has been acquired, and at what rate per acre?
- What will the higher reservoir level deliver in irrigation, and for which districts?
