Pesticides banned abroad, still sold in India
Dozens of pesticides that other countries ban or restrict are still sold to Indian farmers.
Open for ideas, evidence and questions.
What we know
In 2018 the government told Parliament that 66 pesticides banned or restricted in one or more countries were still registered in India. It later banned 18 of them, and in 2020 proposed banning 27 more. Paraquat, which many countries ban, is still sold, and a challenge to it is pending in the Supreme Court.
Open questions
- Which of the proposed bans took effect, and which were withdrawn?
- Which banned-abroad pesticides are sold most in your district?
- How many farmers in your state were poisoned by pesticides last year?
